Diindolylmethane (DIM) is widely found in natural plants of Cruciferae. It has important biological and pharmacological activities and is widely used in the field of pharmaceuticals and health products. DIM has the biological characteristics listed in the following table. Due to its various potent antineoplastic properties, the National Neoplasms Institute has begun clinical trials of DIM to remedy many forms of neoplasms. Due to its inherent immunoregulatory properties (enhancing interferon γ receptors and production), DIM is also being studied for the remedy of a variety of viral infections and pharmaceuticals-resistant bacteria. Since DIM has been shown to have synergistic effects with interferon-γ in enhancing major histocompatibility complexes, it is also being investigated as an adjuvant in the IFN-G remedy model for neoplasms and viral infections such as HIV, HPV and hepatitis.
