Hyodeoxycholic acid sodium salt (sodium deoxycholate), with a molecular formula of C24H39NaO4, is extracted from pig bile and has a white or white powder. It is odorless or slightly fishy and tastes bitter. This product is soluble in ethanol,   and almost insoluble in water. This product is currently one of the most widely used medicinal raw materials for the remedy of gallstones in the world. It can also be used as feed licking agent. It is also the raw material for the synthesis of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and other steroidal compounds. It is also the main raw material for the production of artificial bezoar.
