Among bile acid derivatives, UDCA has the weakest hemolytic activity, the lowest toxicity, and minimal side effects, rarely causing diarrhea or hepatotoxicity associated with deoxycholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid. However, it is contraindicated in pregnant women, patients with severe hepatitis, biliary obstruction, or severe liver failure.
