Inositol is a natural compound present in human cells and is a member of the B vitamin group, also known as vitamin B8. It was first isolated from the myocardium and liver. In nature, inositol exists in multiple cis-trans isomers, with the naturally occurring isomer being cis-1,2,3,5-trans-4,6-cyclohexanehexol. Foods rich in inositol include animal liver, brewer's yeast, lima beans, bovine brain and heart, cantaloupe, grapefruit, raisins, malt, unrefined molasses, peanuts, kale, and whole-grain cereals. The typical daily intake ranges from 250 to 450 mg.

Application fields:
1.Pharmaceutical Industry: Inositol can be used to produce inositol tablets, inositol nicotinate (inositol hexanicotinate), and triglycerides, which are employed to remedy hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, and hypercholesterolemia. Fluoro-inositol, a newly developed product, exhibits antineoplastic properties, therapeutic effects against neoplasms, and highly efficient immune-boosting functions.
2.Food Industry: Inositol, a "bioactive factor," participates in metabolic activities within the body, offering immune support and preventive or therapeutic effects against certain diseases. In fermentation and food processing, it is used for microbial culture and to promote yeast growth. Higher animals deficient in inositol may experience growth stagnation and hair loss. The daily human requirement for inositol is 1-2 grams, and it is added in trace amounts to many health beverages and children's foods. Inositol also acts as a growth fact.r for certain intestinal microorganisms and can stimulate vitamin synthesis in microbes when other vitamins are deficient.
3.Feed Industry: Studies have shown that adding inositol to animal feed promotes livestock growth and reduces mortality. The typical dosage ranges from 0.2% to 0.5% of the feed. In Japan alone, annual consumption of inositol for animal use exceeds 100 metric tons.
4.Other Applications: Through further processing, inositol can be converted into derivatives such as inositol peptides, inositol organic acid esters (e.g., inositol phosphate), inositol inorganic acid esters, halogenated inositol, phosphatidylinositol, and amino cyclitol. These derivatives hold significant practical value in industries including pharmaceuticals, power, transportation, energy, electronics, and chemicals. Since the 1990s, research has revealed that inositol combined with carnitine aids in converting fat into energy for expenditure. Consequently, inositol-containing weight-loss and lipid-lowering health foods and nutritional supplements have gained immense popularity in Europe and the United States.
